  12. The  entire  driver  package may be noncommercially redistributed,
  13. provided  that  the  package is always distributed in its complete
  14. form.  A small copy fee for media costs is allowed but any kind of
  15. commercial distribution is strictly forbidden!

  20. This  driver  package  is  shareware.  You may feel free to use it

  45. Description:
  46. ------------
  47. This driver is intended for all those Seikosha EpsonLQ compatible
  48. dot  matrix  printers out there.  The driver is up to 2000% faster
  49. compared  to the commodore EpsonQ driver and supports more graphic
  50. modes (see below for additional features).

  53. ------------
  54. 1. Dot matrix b&w/color printer (text and graphics).
  55. 2. Drives all EpsonQ/EpsonQ+  compatible printers.
  56. 3. Linefeeds # of vertical dots printed.

  65. 5. A PaperSize of 'Wide Tractor' selects a maximum print width of
  66.    13.6 inches (for wide carriage printers).
  67. 6. A papertype of 'SINGLE' ejects the sheet with a formfeed after every
  68.    dump.  This enables Epsons sheet cutting feature.  Formfeed
  69.    after a graphic dump is send according to the SPECIAL_NOFORMFEED flag.

  71. Improvements added (compared to EpsonQ)
  72. ------------------
  73. 1.  The old PaperType function has been removed for a sheet
  74.     cutting feature. No more 16pins support ! 24pins should be
  75.     mastered by modern printers, specially in 360*360DPI mode...
  76.     Selecting SINGLE in preferences ejects the sheet after using
  77.     the printer. This enables cutting sheet features.
  78. 2.  Support of more graphic resolutions (360 YDPI) !
  79. 3.  The driver has been speeded up. Now it's much faster than
  80.     a standard WB driver.
  81. 4.  Users which previously used the Plus drivers might search for
  82.     the ".020" turbo version of the driver.
  83.     Thanks to special code done in this driver, the driver
  84.     automaticly makes use of the improved features of
  85.     68020/30/40 processors. There is absolutly no more need for
  86.     a "turbo" version of the driver, because everything is built in.
  87.     During initialisation, the driver finds out wich type of processor
  88.     is currently used. If it is run on an improved processer
  89.     (i.e. 68020,68030 or 68040), it uses the optimised turbo routines.
  90.     These routines take care of new instructions and performance
  91.     increase by using the processor cache.
  92. 5.  There is now support for selecting different typefaces.  Due
  93.     to the extended character translation table, the character set
  94.     selection commands (aFNT0 - aFNT10) are no longer really needed.

  115. 6.  Timeout is now set according to the preference settings. In
  116.     case something is wrong with your printer you sooner get a
  117.     requester.  This enables you to cancel a print request more
  118.     quickly. How "timeout" is calculated:
  119.  
  120.     b&w or grey + 180YDPI = 20 seconds
  121.     b&w or grey + 360YDPI = 40 seconds
  122.     color + 180YDPI = 30 seconds
  123.     color + 360YDPI = 60 seconds
  124.  
  125.     Commo's EpsonQ driver = allways 30 seconds
  126.  
  127. 7.  The printer driver now uses the 24 pin modus for 90XDPI and
  128.     120XDPI graphic printings. This results in a better quality
  129.     and a faster graphic dump.
  130.  
  131. 8.  The driver now uses ESC-$ (abs.  horiz.  position) to advance
  132.     the printerhead over white areas while doing graphic dumps.
  133.     Please note: this method might not be suitable to your printer and
  134.     in case your printer gets ugly slow: this is not your driver (contact me!).
  135.     Use the "test" script to find out if your printer handles ESC-$ right
  136.     with this driver.

  138.     The  Seikosha is  one  of those printers, which handle
  139.     ESC-$    a    bit   different   to   those   new   printers   from
  140.     Epson/Nec.   To  avoid  a  loss in speed for this
  141.     printer, I made this extra driver which uses ESC-$ a bit differently
  142.     compared to the EpsonQPlus and Star24Plus driver.

  144.     ESC-$ is used:
  145.  
  146.         a.) the white area is greater than 2inch and you're doing
  147.             360XDPI graphic dumps
  148.         b.) it's the white left border
  149.         c.) ESC-$ is used wherever possible while doing <360XDPI graphic dumps.

  151. Special things to note
  152. ----------------------
  153. After my first release of an EpsonLQ compatible printer driver I got
  154. many letters from people asking for an unsupported  printer driver.
  155.  
  156. Please:

  158. 1. include some money if you wan't to get answered. Postage takes a
  159.    major part of my income (as student I have no real income :-(  )
  160. 2. in case you found a bug: please give me a full description or
  161.    better: an example image/printout. In most cases I can't verify
  162.    your statements without an example!

  164. Notes
  165. -----
  166. *1 - in this mode most printers cannot print two consecutive dots in a row.
  167.      It is recommended that you only use this density for B&W Shade dumps.
